International pipeline network secures supplies and sales
Of the 145 million tons of chemicals transported annually in Germany, 36 percent is transported via pipelines. The German chemical parks and sites are interconnected via numerous pipelines, as well as being linked to neighboring countries. This extremely well developed network of pipelines connects the chemical parks to the European trans-shipment centers for mineral oil, natural gas and naphtha. Pipeline connections with Mediterranean and North Sea ports and with Russia ensure stable supplies of crude oil and natural gas from various sources. The chemical parks also obtain ethylene and propylene via pipeline connections. Pipelines for hydrogen, carbon monoxide and specialized gases link the parks to each other.
Chemical infrastructure at park locations
Many different companies at any one location produce numerous products, ranging from basic to special chemicals. The companies located in a chemical park are interlinked by a
closely meshed pipeline system. The products manufactured here are therefore available at short notice. The chemical park operators develop this chemical infrastructure at the location continually and adapt it to the requirements of the companies based there.
